Chobe National Park, in the north of Botswana, is known for its large elephant population and for the Chobe River, where wildlife comes to drink and can be watched from boats. It is one of the easiest Botswana parks to include in a trip because it sits close to Victoria Falls.
What you can do here
Boat safaris along the Chobe River let you approach elephant, hippo, buffalo and waterbirds at eye level, and are especially good in the late afternoon. Game drives along the riverfront and into the park add predators and plains game.
When to go
The dry season, roughly May to October, is best, as animals gather along the river in large numbers. The green season is quieter and good for birds.
Adding it to your safari
Chobe pairs naturally with Victoria Falls, and the two together make a compact southern Africa extension. We arrange the border crossing, transfers and lodges.
