Damaraland is a rugged, semi-arid region of north-west Namibia, known for dramatic rock formations, wide valleys and wildlife that has adapted to dry conditions, including desert-adapted elephants. It also holds Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with ancient rock engravings.
What you can do here
Guided drives and walks look for elephants and other wildlife in the dry riverbeds, and visits to the rock engravings add a cultural and historical dimension. The scenery is a draw in its own right.
When to go
The cooler dry months, roughly May to October, are the most comfortable, and wildlife follows the water in the riverbeds.
Adding it to your safari
Damaraland fits between Etosha and the coast or the southern desert. We plan the route, transfers and lodges.
