Etosha National Park is Namibia’s best-known wildlife destination. It is built around a huge salt pan, and its waterholes draw elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, giraffe and large herds of zebra and springbok, often visible from the comfort of a vehicle or a fixed viewpoint.
What you can do here
Game drives and waterhole watching are the heart of a visit. Several rest camps have floodlit waterholes, so wildlife can be watched into the evening. The park is also good for birdwatching and photography.
When to go
The dry season, roughly May to October, is the best time, because animals depend on the waterholes and are easy to find. The green season brings rain, scattered game and spectacular birds.
Adding it to your safari
Etosha is usually combined with Sossusvlei and the Namib Desert for a contrast of wildlife and landscape. We plan the flights, drives and lodges.
