Vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free and other dietary requirements are all genuinely well accommodated across East Africa’s safari lodges and camps — this is a routine part of planning a trip, not a limitation on where you can stay or what you can experience.
How this actually works
We pass your dietary requirements to every lodge and camp on your itinerary as part of confirming the booking, well before you arrive — most properties are well accustomed to catering for vegetarian, vegan and other specific diets and simply need advance notice to plan accordingly, rather than being caught off guard on the day.
Vegetarian and vegan travellers
East African cuisine already includes substantial plant-based staples — beans, lentils, matoke, ugali and a wide range of vegetables — meaning vegetarian and vegan travellers are rarely limited to a single safe dish, and most lodges offer genuinely varied plant-based menus rather than a token substitution.
Allergies and medical dietary needs
Food allergies and medically necessary diets should be flagged clearly and as early as possible, since these require more careful handling in kitchens than a general preference — the earlier a lodge knows, the more confidently they can plan around it.
Telling us what you need
Let us know any dietary requirements or food allergies when planning your safari, and we’ll make sure every property on your itinerary is properly informed well ahead of your arrival.
