Kibira National Park protects montane rainforest in the north-west of Burundi, close to the border with Rwanda and the Nyungwe forest. It is home to primates including chimpanzees, baboons and the rare golden monkey, alongside a good range of forest birds.
What you can do here
Guided forest walks are the main activity, with the chance to see primates and birds in a quiet, little-visited setting. Facilities are simpler than in Rwanda’s parks, so it suits travellers who value a less developed experience.
When to go
The drier windows, June to August and December to January, are generally the most comfortable for forest walking.
Adding it to your safari
Kibira fits naturally after Nyungwe in Rwanda. We arrange the border logistics, permits and guides.
