Dietary & Special Requirements

Vegetarian, vegan, halal and other dietary needs, well accommodated across the region.

Vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free and other dietary requirements are all genuinely well accommodated across East Africa’s safari lodges and camps. This is a routine part of planning a trip, not a limitation on where you can stay or what you can experience.

How this actually works

We pass your dietary requirements to every lodge and camp on your itinerary as part of confirming the booking, well before you arrive; most properties are well accustomed to catering for vegetarian, vegan and other specific diets and simply need advance notice to plan accordingly, rather than being caught off guard on the day.

Vegetarian and vegan travellers

East African cuisine already includes substantial plant-based staples (beans, lentils, matoke, ugali and a wide range of vegetables) meaning vegetarian and vegan travellers are rarely limited to a single safe dish, and most lodges offer genuinely varied plant-based menus rather than a token substitution.

Allergies and medical dietary needs

Food allergies and medically necessary diets should be flagged clearly and as early as possible, since these require more careful handling in kitchens than a general preference; the earlier a lodge knows, the more confidently they can plan around it.

Telling us what you need

Let us know any dietary requirements or food allergies when planning your safari, and we’ll make sure every property on your itinerary is properly informed well ahead of your arrival.

Questions about Dietary & Special Requirements

View all FAQs →
Can I ask questions before booking?

Yes. Use the planning form, WhatsApp or email to discuss your plans before making a booking decision.

Can Offmap Safaris create a tailor-made itinerary?

Yes. Safari itineraries can be shaped around your interests, pace, travel style, dates and preferred level of accommodation.

Can you arrange a family safari with children?

Yes. Certain parks, lodges and experiences suit families with children better than others (age limits apply to gorilla trekking, for example), and we can shape an itinerary with that in mind.

Can you arrange a safari for a solo traveller?

Yes, we regularly plan safaris for solo travellers, either as a private itinerary or joining scheduled small-group departures where available.

Do your prices include international flights?

Safari pricing covers the itinerary itself (accommodation, park fees, permits where applicable, guiding and ground transport as specified) while international flights to and from East Africa are arranged separately by the traveller unless otherwise agreed.

How do I know which safari is right for me?

Compare destinations, duration, travel style and experiences, or contact us and we will help match your priorities with an itinerary.
