Best Time to Visit Uganda: A Season-by-Season Guide

Uganda can be visited year-round — here is how the seasons actually affect a safari.

Uganda sits on the equator, so temperatures stay fairly consistent year-round — the bigger question for planning is rainfall, and how it affects trekking conditions, game viewing and lodge rates.

Dry seasons (roughly December–February and June–September)

These months are generally the most popular for travel. Trails in Bwindi and Kibale are easier underfoot, roads in the savannah parks are more reliable, and game viewing in open areas like Queen Elizabeth National Park tends to be more concentrated around remaining water sources.

Wetter months

The rest of the year brings more rainfall, lusher scenery, fewer other travellers at popular sites, and often lower lodge rates. Gorilla trekking remains possible in any month, since it happens in rainforest regardless of season — travellers should simply expect muddier trails.

Our take

There isn’t a wrong time to visit Uganda. The choice comes down to whether you’d rather trade easier underfoot conditions for higher season crowds and rates, or the reverse — we can talk through which fits your priorities when planning your trip.
